Manufacturer Province (Identification)

Definition:

  • This field contains the name of the province of the manufacturer of the object.

Observations:

  1. This field may also contain the name of a Canadian territory, an American state, a British county, a Swiss canton, a Japanese prefecture or any other equivalent of the term "province."
    Example

    A chair manufactured by Blattmann Metallwarenfabric AG in the Swiss canton of Zurich

  2. For better search results in your database, avoid a large variety of terms; draw up an authority list and add names of provinces as necessary. See documentation tip No. 2 (in French only) for bibliographic references.
  3. This field is used in conjunction with the Manufacturer Country field.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the full name of the province; do not use abbreviations.
    Example

    A tapestry manufactured by Knoll Textiles in the state of New York

     and not 
     Manufacturer Province N.Y.
  2. If the name of the manufacturer province has changed, enter its current name followed by a comma and a space, and then the name used at the time the object was manufactured.
    Example

    One pair of clogs, dated 1851, manufactured by Le Goanvec et Fils in Côtes-du-Nord, today Côtes-d'Armor

  3. If you are unsure whether your information is correct, include a space and a question mark after the name of the province.
    Example

    A vessel manufactured in the Netherlands, probably in South Holland

  4. This field may contain multiple entries separated by a semicolon followed by a space. They should correspond to the entries in the Manufacturer field.
    Example

    A sofa made by Herman Miller Furniture Co. of Michigan, in cooperation with the Plycraft Company of Lawrence, Massachusetts
