Map Reference (Site/Habitat/Origin)

Field used for natural science collections

Definition:

  • This field contains the map reference of the co-ordinates of the collection site.

Observations:

  1. This field is used to specify the source of geographic co-ordinates.
  2. This field is used in conjunction with the Elevation, Longitude and Latitude fields.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the full map reference code, respecting its official form.
    Example

    A collection site located at 75°27'48" West longitude and 46°35'16" North latitude was located thanks to map 31J/11 in the Ferme-Neuve region.

     Longitude 75 27 48 W
      Latitude 46 35 16 N

  2. This field may contain multiple entries separated by a semicolon followed by a space. Each entry in the Map Reference field must correspond to the Elevation, Longitude and Latitude fields.
    Example

    A copper specimen from a former mine in the Saint-Ephrem-de-Beauce region. The mine had two entrances, about 5 kilometres apart. The geographic co-ordinates of the collection site correspond to the two mine entrances, i.e. 70°56'21" West longitude and 46°00'12" North latitude for one and 70°56'04" West longitude and 45°58'35" North latitude for the other. These geographic co-ordinates are on two different maps: Beauceville, 21L02, and La Guadeloupe, 21E15.

      Latitude 46 00 12 N; 45 58 35 N
