Previous Number (Identification)

Definition:

  • This field contains any numbers that have previously been assigned to the specimen, other than its accession number.

Observations:

  1. The number entered in this field may be a number assigned to the specimen before it was acquired by your institution, a previous accession number or an expired catalogue number.
  2. N.B.: The main reference number for the specimen should be entered in the Accession Number field.
  3. N.B.: Do not confuse this field with the Collector Number field, which contains the collection number assigned to the specimen in the field by the collector.
    Example

    Previous Number L(79)446.X
     GenusLinnaea
     Species borealis
      Collector Number JM24

Entry rules:

  1. Enter the previous number; do not use abbreviations.
  2. This field may contain multiple entries separated by a semicolon followed by a space.
    Example

      Accession Number 1990.53
    Previous NumberG53.Tx.S; C.176.3
     GenusMicrotus
     Species pinetorum
