Site Type Class (Site Data)

Field to be used with an authority listField used for archaeology collections (object data and site data)

Definition:

  • This field contains the standardized name of the type class assigned to the site.

Observations:

  1. This field contains the most general level of the site type class.
  2. The site type class is defined according to the presence of human occupation and the time of occupation.
  3. For better search results in your database, avoid a large variety of terms; draw up an authority list and add names as necessary.

Entry rules:

  1. If the site was occupied during several periods, enter the type class names beginning with the oldest, separated by a semicolon and a space.
    Example

    Site Type Class prehistoric; historic; contemporary
     Site Typesacred, burial; commercial, trading post; habitation
  2. If several site types are linked with the same site type class, repeat the type class name.
    Example

    Site Type Class modern; modern
     Site Type sacred, burial; habitation, campsite
  3. If you are unsure whether your information is correct, include a space and a question mark after the keyword.
    Example

    Site Type Classprehistoric ?
