Definition:

  • This field contains the measurement of the maximum width of the specimen.

Observations:

  1. Width is the smaller horizontal dimension of a specimen. The greater horizontal dimension is to be entered in the Length field. For naturalized animals, this is most often the back, measured at 90º to the spine. For naturalized birds with wings spread, width refers to the total wingspan.
  2. This field is used in conjunction with the Unit Linear field.
  3. Dimensions should always be expressed in centimetres, except when the item is too large or too small.

Entry rules:

  1. Enter a single measurement, in real numbers.
    Example

     Unit Linearcm
    Width 33.5
  2. Details regarding measurements and comments about partial or questionable measurements should be noted in the Dimension/Weight Remarks field.
    Example

     Unit Linearcm
    Width20
Dimension/Weight Remarks The width indicated is approximate.
  3. This field may not contain more than one entry.
